It may be 230 miles from Washington, D.C., to midtown Manhattan, but Madison Square Garden is a home away from home for Georgetown basketball.

As a founding member of the Big East Conference, the Hoyas annually travel up Interstate 95 to play at The World’s Most Famous Arena. And it’s an arena in which Georgetown has enjoyed great success.

The Hoyas own an 84-78 record at The Garden, including a 62-50 mark since the start of the Big East Conference in 1979-80. Georgetown is 23-16 in 39 Garden games under head coach John Thompson III.

Thirteen times Georgetown has advanced to the Big East title game, which has always been played at The Garden. Seven times the Hoyas have raised the trophy.

This year, the Hoyas will start the season in the 2K Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project, which culminates with the Championship Rounds under the spoked roof on Nov. 20 and Nov. 22. In his final season at Georgetown, senior guard D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera will look to continue to use Madison Square Garden as his personal showcase. In four games last season in New York, Smith-Rivera averaged 23.5 points per game, which included a pair of 29-point games – one a 91-87 overtime win against Indiana, the other a loss to St. John’s.
